Whether you are an experienced veteran of the stage or a beginner with a yearn to perform, The Media Theatre has just what you may need: Acting and Voice Classes.
All acting classes within The Media Theatre School of The Theatre are based on the Sanford Meisner Technique, which follows the mantra "Acting is living as truthfully as one can under an imaginary circumstance." This technique, developed by Mr. Meisner after he worked with the Group Theatre at New York City's Neighborhood Playhouse, was something he continued to refine for half a century. The technique is still part of a program at the Neighborhood Playhouse where The Media Theatre's Artistic Director Jesse Cline studied.
"Meisner Training is an interdependent series of exercises that build upon one another," Cline explained.
"It assists in developing an ability to improvise and to bring one's own personal and honest response to the text or the script. This is great training for adults who must speak in public as part of their livelihood or for youth who wish to develop and maintain an honest integrity toward their work onstage. It certainly is not about mimicking or imitation, but rather about finding the truth to a situation within yourself. With the young children, repetitive theatre exercises are utilized to build and strengthen their personality through self-expression and working with others."
The popular Voice Classes will continue, meeting on Tuesday evenings for ages 6 -18. The Voice Class culminates in a recital attended by family and friends.
